Manager, Electrical Engineering

SUMMARY:

The Manager of Electrical Engineering will be responsible for overseeing changes made to current product design initiatives, oversight and review of factory supporting projects, product enhancements, and cost/continuous improvement projects. This position organizes and manages multiple projects involved by the team, and ensures projects are completed in a timely manner while prioritizing and assigning work appropriately to meet business objectives. This position will also facilitate creative solutions to existing products when issues arise or when modifications are required, ensuring cross-functional project teams support sustaining efforts to complete projects within design control procedures in a timely manner. This position includes direct management of engineers with areas of expertise in project engineering, sustaining engineering, electrical engineering, as well as process improvement.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Leads staff of 7 engineers, designers and technicians.   Ability to motivate others, set team direction, demonstrate leadership by example
  • Develops and Maintains Product enhancement/improvement pipeline (e.g. sustaining projects) across the existing product portfolio of Intermatic products. 
  • Reviews Quality and Tech support feedback to determine opportunities for design improvements to improve quality and decrease field failure rates. 
  • Collaborates with Sales, Product Management, and Quality to prioritize product improvement opportunities. 
  • Provides technical support for our LAB on product certification details when needed (UL, CSA, VDE, NOM, etc.)
  • Participates and provides inputs for performance measurements (team) for monthly operation executive reviews (MOR). 
  • Assigns and manages personnel to work with Quality and Manufacturing teams on root cause analysis, containment procedures and corrective action when needed.
  • Ensure employees demonstrate appropriate work skills, technical accuracy, efficiency
  • Keeps abreast of industry standards and code requirements through competitive analysis, trade publications, and internal and external communication.
  • May take on or contribute to specific projects as the project lead.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Will have direct reports and lead a team of Engineers.
  • Mentor and ensure direct reports have the appropriate training necessary to exceed job expectations. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering preferred, or 15+ years of relevant experience in Engineering/Product Development and/or Sustainability
  • Must excel in working in a team environment with engineers from the software, mechanical, and test lab as well as members of the Marketing, Sales and Technical Support teams   
  • Excellent ability to convey information clearly and effectively in written and verbal communications.  Presents technical information in easily understood terms to various stakeholders in the organization
  • Extensive experience designing low cost, high volume, quality product that can be manufactured efficiently 
  • Experience designing products utilizing wireless modules (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee)
  • Altium knowledge is required (or other circuit design tools, such as SolidWorks) 
  • Solid understanding of design best practices and processes 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Visio and PowerPoint
  • Able to manage various activities at one time with accuracy
  • Keeps current with new technical advances and integrates into new product designs when applicable
  • Knowledge of UL, CSA, IEC, ASHRAE, NEMA and other standards is a plus
  • Knowledgeable in C/C++ or Python programming languages is a plus 

PHYSICAL DEMAND AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Capable of working under pressure in a busy office and lab environment
  • Must be capable of international travel to Intermatic’s manufacturing and supplier facilities.
