Product Category Manager
SUMMARY:
This role manages a product line end-to-end, using deep product expertise to support sales, introduce new products, and create compelling marketing content. The position owns market intelligence and competitive analysis to guide product strategy, roadmap development, and profitable growth initiatives. It gathers customer insights (VOC) to identify product opportunities and differentiators, while defining value propositions and messaging for internal and external stakeholders.
The role participates in product design, documents requirements, and partners cross-functionally with engineering, supply chain, sales, marketing, and purchasing to ensure successful development, availability, and ongoing performance of products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Utilize product expertise within the assigned product category to provide support, including new product introductions, sales enablement, and marketing content driving customer satisfaction.
- Owns market intelligence to develop and execute on marketing plans, new product development and roadmaps to ensure the profitable growth and expansion of the product line.
- Conducts competitive analysis and gathers Voice of Customer inputs to develop product ideas for expansion, differentiation and competitive advantage.
- Documents new product requirements and participates in product design and development to ensure ideal design outcomes for performance, cost, and market acceptance.
- Define the key value propositions and messaging of new and updated products for customers, sales, marketing and support teams.
- Interfaces with scheduling, planning, purchasing and others to alleviate product shortage situations.
- Owns the overall pricing strategy and margin achievement goals for assigned products.
- Communicates and collaborates effectively with sales, engineering and marketing regarding commercial impact of representative product lines.
- Resolves daily issues involved with product development, quality, overall maintenance, availability and other aspects of the product line. Works with appropriate departments to achieve results.
- Drives packaging, cost reductions, product changes, sku consolidstion, and sustaining projects as assigned.
- Augment professional and technical product knowledge by taking opportunities to gain hands-on training; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in tradeshows and professional societies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS in Business, Marketing or Engineering, MBA preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Marketing, Product Management, or Product Development
- Ability to interpret market trends, financial data, and voice of customer
- Strong understanding of the new product development process
- Ability to operate at all levels in the organization, excellent written and oral communication, influencing, negotiation and collaboration skills.
- Proficient in MS PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the above-mentioned qualifications, knowledge or experience with the following items is preferred, but not required:
- Experience working as a qualified electrician or experience in the Electrical Distribution market highly desired
- Ability to understand product bill of materials and basic engineering drawings
- Experience in using Adobe Workfront
