What's the difference between Access Point, Wi-Fi and Remote Mode?

One of the key benefits of the Ascend Smart In-Wall Timer is it does not require an active local area network (Wi-Fi) to complete initial setup. Through a peer-to-peer (Access Point) communication channel, contractors can use their mobile device to communicate directly with the timer through a peer-to-peer (Access Point) communication channel.

Ascend Smart also integrates Wi-Fi, Remote Access and Voice Control communication.

  • Peer-to-Peer (Access Point): Used for initial setup, the Access Point connection is a secure link that allows the timer to communicate directly with any mobile device. Contractors will find a timer-specific Access Point network (e.g., "7DT-XXXXXXXX") under their mobile device's list of available networks when in close proximity to the timer.
  • Wi-Fi Mode: Wi-Fi Mode connects the timer to any active local area network. This allows users to control the timer through the Ascend Smart Timer app from any area or space that's covered by the network. The app will also display all timers connected to the local area network.
  • Remote Access via Intermatic Connect (Cloud): Remote Access lets homeowners control their timers from anywhere they have cellular coverage using the Ascend Smart timer app. This affords homeowners true mobile access, helping them update programs and make manual adjustments at any time. Users must first create an Intermatic Connect account and sync timers in their network to access this feature.
  • Voice Control: Voice Control allows homeowners to control their Ascend Smart In-Wall Timer with Amazon Alexa. Alexa is Amazon's cloud-based voice service, otherwise known as a voice assistant platform. Alexa is the only voice assistant platform Ascend is currently compatible with; however, other platforms will be added in the near future.
